Mieke Verstraeten
In the "Acquire Her Day" blog series, we talk with remarkable women who have mastered the art of blending career, style and well-being in their daily lives. They give us a glimpse of their morning and dressing routines, how they use style as a tool for self-expression, empowerment, and overall wellness.
Today we gain inspiration from Mieke Verstraeten. Mieke is managing director of Induver, a Belgian family business specializing in industrial insurance that has been supporting entrepreneurs and companies for more than 30 years in managing the risks inextricably linked to entrepreneurship. Although operating in a traditional sector, she has a keen interest in fashion and a great sense of style. The philosophy of her wardrobe is characterised by use and reuse. So we couldn't be more curious about how Mieke runs a successful corporate career in so much style.
On her morning routine
I'm waking up at 6:30. I start the day with a shower, put on my make-up and do my hair.
My dressing routine is part of my morning routine. Based on my agenda and the weather, I choose my outfit. Some days its more corporate, other days more creative or casual. I buy pieces that are classic and mix and match well, what makes that I can go with the flow when putting together an outfit.
My go-to outfit that empowers me is a suit and heels in the winter and a dress during summer.
My outfit, hair and make-up significantly contribute to my self-esteem and comfort during the day.
Thereafter, I help my children to get dressed and go to school before I get to work myself. In my car I will have my breakfast and do some phone calls or listen to a podcast. On Thursday, I make sure I have first a training session before all the rest.
On her personal style
My personal style is minimal, elegant and classic with a twist. It plays a big role in expressing my individuality and boosting my confidence. I work in a rather corporate, masculine environment. My personal style helps me stand out.
Fashion brands that align with my style and values - though, sadly, not always with my budget- are MaxMara Weekend, Dries Van Noten, made to measure pieces from Pursuit Femmes, Victoria Beckham, Eric Bompard for sweaters and scarves and Eres for lingerie & bathing suits, Dior and Prada.
On style and wellness
I feel more ‘seen’, more present, more alive when I can present myself in a style that reflects my personality. Although, ideally, I would spend less time in the bathroom and by the manicure and hairdresser. It feel it is really a lost of time that often frustrates me. The time I spend on buying and choosing outfits does not bother me as I am a very quick decision maker and have items that mix and match very well. I curated my wardrobe in a wat that it makes me easier in the morning to find something that fits my personality.
On sustainable fashion
Today, sustainability in fashion is important to many women. My approach is to choose items that will stand the test of time, buy second hand and get my clothes cleaned and repaired professionally.
Her wardrobe essentials
The key wardrobe essentials I cannot live without are a white blouse, a dark blue dress, blue jeans, black pants and a suit.
